Works great - but DON'T wring it out! Jan 10, 2010 I bought the water eater to catch rain which sometimes blows in on our porch. It's a stained concrete floor, so I wasn't concerned about just leaving the water eater in place. I put it several inches away from the wall, and it did a great job of absorbing water that would have run toward the house. However...
I don't know why, but my husband decided one day to pick it up and wring it out...
Like some others have said, it becomes a gooey mess - and you'll be "slimed." We had to toss it.
Don't use this product on wood or any surface that must be dried out quickly. If the water eater gets saturated, just move it when you can and let it alone to dry on a flat surface. DO NOT try to wring it out! It will absorb an amazing amount of water and the inside feels like a gel, but does not require wringing out.
I gave it a 5 star rating because, used properly and under the right conditions, this is a great product. If I cannot find it locally, I will order another one.

It oozes! Jul 19, 2009 I recently had a chance to see these in action as we had a very heavy rain storn. While they did absorb some of the water in the basement, the storm was over a week ago and they are still not dried out - good thing we haven't had any more heavy rain. I hung them up to dry and they oozed some kind of slimey stuff all over the floor and my hands when I picked them up. Most of the "stuffing" has migrated to the ends I have hanging down & they are still wet & dripping slime!

Soppy Mess, Doesn't Work Jun 23, 2009 I really wanted this product to work, since my below grade entrance gets a shallow coating of water every time it rains. I placed Mr.Quick Wick at the entrance and it absorbed about as much water as a sponge of the equivalent size would, enough to make it soppy but not enough to prevent the water from creeping past it. After the rain, the product is slow to dry out and keep clean, and looks like a drowned worm while the water slowly seeps out. It also has a slimy feel when wet, making wringing it out unpleasant.

Great for stopping draft and staying dry. Feb 18, 2008 We have a below grade door that suffers a considerable draft and dampness during strong rains. This item manages to squish into the space well and then even though it is exposed to constant damp it has not mildewed. I am impressed and want another. None to be found on Amazon today. I'll have to shop around.

Solved my water problems! Dec 13, 2007 This water eater is a great product. I have had trouble in the past with water from near my bathtub and under my aquarium leaking occasionally and going to the apartment below, much to my embarrassment. Now I know that this product will absorb the water and then dry out with no odor. Solves the problem for me!
